So, they only made a few of the 1M, but there will shortly be an M235i and probably an M2 that are similar and most likely better. Will the 1M's values and position as a "future icon" drop quickly thereafter?

I don't see future values of the 1M dropping due to a possible M2 being released - The 1M was the first and will be the last - it'll be worth it just to have the scarce 1M over an M2. I also imagine there will be a premium for M3 coupes as they're now the M4.
If I can ramble on a bit I also see the V8 M3 and the V10 M5/6 going for premiums in the future as well, just because those were the insane big engine years and they were the last naturally aspirated M cars.
